Are you planning to propose to your partner soon? Or have you just gotten engaged? Then you are undoubtedly thinking about your engagement ring. A beautiful jewel to commemorate this special moment. But, on which hand do you actually wear an engagement ring? And what about your wedding ring?
Left or right hand?
The side on which you wear your engagement ring depends entirely on your personal preference. Traditionally, in the Netherlands and many other Western countries, an engagement ring is often worn on the left hand. The choice for the left hand comes from a distant past. The ancient Egyptians and Romans believed that the left ring finger is directly connected to the heart through the Vena Amoris, the vein of love.
However, sometimes the engagement ring is also worn on the right hand. The preference for the left or right hand varies depending on religious beliefs, culture, or even the country where you live. For example, Christians usually wear the engagement ring on the left hand and the wedding ring on the right hand. In other religions such as Islam, Judaism, or Hinduism, you also increasingly see engagement rings being worn. On which hand the ring is worn, often varies by country or region.
Which finger do you wear your engagement ring on?
The most common practice is to wear your engagement ring on your ring finger, as the name implies. Of course, this does not mean you have to wear it that way. Do you think your engagement ring looks better on your middle finger, or maybe even your index finger? Go for the look that you like the most.
